Wrist Brace for Hand Numbness and Wrist Pain

For the hand that wakes you up at 3 a.m.

WRIST BRACE FOR HAND NUMBNESS AND WRIST PAIN

A wrist brace keeps your wrist tipped back a little in a resting position. It is most often worn at night, and it can ease the numb, tingling hand that wakes you up, whether the problem starts at the wrist or sits alongside a pinched nerve in the neck.

Your physician orders this item. We fit it to you and show you how to use it before you take it home.

Why would a neck clinic order a wrist brace?

Numb fingers can come from the neck, the wrist or both at once. An EMG nerve test of the arm sorts that out. When the wrist is part of the problem, resting it in the right position at night takes pressure off the nerve there. Read carpal tunnel or neck for how the two are told apart, and carpal tunnel hydrodissection for care beyond a brace.

How should it fit?

Snug and supportive without pinching, with a rigid stay on the back of the hand or the palm side. It is sized to your wrist, and your fingers and thumb stay free.

How do you wear and care for it?

Usually it goes on at bedtime and during the tasks that set the wrist off, following your physician’s order. Wiggle your fingers and thumb often while it is on. Remove it to wash, and look over the skin underneath every day.

When should you stop and call?

  • Fingers that go cold, blue, numb or puffy: call us
  • A sore spot where the brace rubs: call us

How long does it take?

Wear it as your physician ordered.

You get written instructions and you show us you can use it before you leave. Call (314) 886-5892 if it hurts, does not fit or breaks.

What to remember

  1. Keep the fingers and thumb busy while it is on.
  2. Look at the skin under it daily.
  3. Cold, blue or numb fingers mean a call to us.

Show us you have it: Fasten the brace on your wrist and adjust the straps so we can see the fit. At your next visit we go over it again, and we are glad to repeat any step you want to see twice.

Other equipment we fit

This is one part of our physiotherapy program for neck pain. Every treatment here is ordered and overseen by a physician who has examined your neck, and none begins until a physician is on site and ready to step in at once.

Have it fitted and explained in person

We size it, show you how to use it, and watch you do it yourself before you leave.
